Sam Riley amused by Akon

20th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sam Riley burst into hysterics when he heard Akons track Smack That because the lyrics are so preposterous.

The track was the first single from Akons album Konvicted and was released in 2006. It features Eminem, and includes lyrics about women that Akon finds attractive.

Actor Sam is also a big fan of music, but admits he couldnt understand the appeal of the song. He cant help laughing whenever he hears it as he finds it so silly, although for some reason he can never get it out of his head.

Smack That by Akon, he replied, when asked which song stays with him when he hears it. I heard it on the radio one morning with my colleagues and we were in hysterics because we couldnt believe the sh*t he was singing. Its talking about [the aerobic exercise] Tae Bo and bending girls over... preposterous lyrics. For weeks afterwards Id be sat there having a moments peace and my brain would just jump out with, Smack that! It was relentless.

Sam used to be in a band called 10,000 Things, which are no longer together. He was the lead singer, but admits finding that period of his life embarrassing. The 31-year-old tries not to think about it too much, particularly as the bands music did not go down well with critics.

Did the album come out in 2005? 2005 was probably the last time I listened to the band then, he laughed to Q. I listen to the occasional track sometimes but I cant say Ive listened to it from start to finish since we mixed it. The album got some terrible reviews, but it wasnt as bad as all that.
