(Cover) - EN Movies - Will Smith is said to be eager to cast Denzel Washington in The American Can.
Will has been working on the drama for a while, which will be centred around 2005's disastrous Hurricane Katrina - one of the deadliest in American history.
It had originally been reported that the multi-talented 42-year-old would produce and star in the film, although schedule conflicts mean he will now be taking an off-camera role.
According to Vulture, Will is keen for 56-year-old movie icon Denzel to be cast as the film's leading character.
The script has been written by John Lee Hancock, who is best known for directing 2009 drama The Blind Side, and he will also helm The American Can. The picture will recount the tale of residents trapped in their apartment block when the levees broke during the hurricane, and is based on a true story.
Apparently Denzel is currently giving notes on the venture, and Will plans to make a decision based on the feedback. (C) Cover Media
