Rating: 2.5/5

The Solo race of SOLO doesn't quite work...

As Nara Rohith enters the household of Nisha Aggarwal to win the hearts of her family members, we start getting a deja vu feel, which continues till the end of the film. It is upsetting to see an interesting line falling prey to cliches.

Solo, directed by Parashuram, not just marks the comeback of Nara Rohith, but also that of family dramas, a space which is occupied by commercial potboilers of late. The movie begins on an impressive note, with an introduction by Puri Jaggannath.

And all is well till the interval as the first half is filled with romance and comedy. When we start speculating that the latter half too would be equally interesting, alas, all hell breaks loose.

Gowtham (Nara Rohith) is an orphan and he craves to get married to a girl who has a large family. He falls for Vaishnavi (Nisha Agarwal), a college student, who hails from a wealthy family.

Vaishnavi's father (Prakash Raj) has an ambition similar to Gowtham. He wants his daughter to marry a boy from a rich family. Hence he rejects Gowtham. The rest of the movie is how the protagonist wins the hearts of everyone in Vaishnavi's family.

Nara Rohith makes a strong comeback and he has improved a lot in acting and dancing. But he also needs to improve his comedy skills. Nisha Aggarwal emotes well, but continues reminding of her elder sister, Kajal Aggarwal.

Prakash Raj ends up doing a regular role, but proves his acting skills. Others in the cast (Shayaji Shinde, Jayasudha, Ali, M S Narayana etc) are up to the mark. Manisharma's music is just okay, while Dasarathi Shivendra`s camera work is excellent.

The film's main strength is the climax and the dialogues, though the second half is similar to Parugu directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar. From the moment the second half starts till the beginning of the climax scene, Solo struggles to show logic and suffers as well, as the cast fails to put up a competent show. But still, it is a decent attempt by Parashuram.
