Tilda Swinton: I choose to be happy

31st December 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tilda Swinton believes people can decide to be happy or not.

The actress is content after establishing herself in the movie world, with acclaimed performances in Julia, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Michael Clayton.

She insists that although life can be difficult at times, such joys lie within all individuals and it is up to them to unlock them.

Happiness is a decision. It is not always easy, but it is always there, Tilda argued.

The 50-year-old has twins Xavier and Honor, and recalled the time when her daughter became upset due to illness. She was amazed later on though, when the girl decided to alter her mindset and seemed more upbeat. I experienced it with my daughter. She had a skin rash when she was a little girl, she felt weak and a bit sad. As against her twin-brother, who frolicked around cheerfully, Tilda explained. And then she made a decision. With eight years she cast off her sadness. I asked her what happened. Why she changed. And she said, 'I just don't let it get me anymore!' I thought it was astonishing."

Tilda once made the claim that obstinacy makes fun, believing that a stubborn attitude can make a person happier by not allowing them to give in to sad thoughts. Now she has said this view - even though she still agrees with it - has changed slightly and thinks a hint of perspective also improves spirits.

"Yes, although I actually meant self-determination. And that's really very important for being happy. It is important not to move just inside your frame [setting]. You should move outside your frame from time to time, the Scot added. (C) Cover Media
