Tollywood goes on strike

3rd July 2012

The Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce (A. F. C. C.), one of the influential bodies of Telugu film Industry, has circulated a letter to producers to shut down work on 5th July, 2012, in protest against VAT and the service tax levied by the government.

D. Suresh Babu, president of A. F. C. C. said, "The tax is very heavy. We will discuss this matter and give a representation to the government to reduce the tax to below five per cent. If necessary, we will go on a one-day national bandh."

Echoing him, Murali Mohan, president of Movie Artists Association, who had called for a metting said, "We are all going to meet soon and will take a decision."

Meanwhile, it is also said that some producers were reluctant to participate in the bandh when they reportedly realised that this shut down was meant to hike the ticket rates, instead of fighting against taxes.
