Tollywood talks tough against dubbed films

17th August 2011

In a move that could spell a trouble for Tamil films being dubbed in Telugu, the Telugu producers' guild has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to restrict the number of prints of dubbed films, to just 50.

According to reports, the guild has also requested the government to double the entertainment tax from 20 per cent to 50 per cent and safeguard the interests of Telugu films.

"When Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments have been imposing 100 per cent entertainment tax on non-Tamil and non-Kannada movies released in their States, respectively, why shouldn't we do the same?" according to Prasanna Kumar, General Secretary, Telugu Film Producers' Council.

It is to be noted that a lot of Tamil films, dubbed and released in Telugu, are making a big impact in Tollywood. 'Rangam' (Ko), 'Yamudu' (Singam), 'Vaadu Veedu' (Avan Ivan) and 'Naa Peru Shiva' (Naan Mahan Alla) are recent examples.
