Tom Hanks jokes about dual movie role

2nd July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tom Hanks says he didn't see "eye to eye" with himself while directing and starring in Larry Crowne.

The Hollywood star wrote, directed and appears in the movie, which is about a man who decides to steer his life in a new direction when he loses his job. Larry, played by Tom, enrols in college, where Julia Roberts' character Mercedes Tainot is his teacher.

Tom has joked that normally when actors veer from the script, the director gets confused, however for Larry Crowne he was able to get away with it because he was the one ultimately editing the shooting.

"There was a period of time when the actor just started saying whatever he wanted to say. And the director was always wondering, Why is he doing that? What about the script? Why doesn't he stick to that?'" he explained in an interview with a UK TV show. "But I knew the director would be able to piece it together in the editing room. So the actor and the writer didn't see eye to eye but they were very civil to each other in the car on the way home."

The 54-year-old can be seen up the upcoming comedy drama worldwide from this month. (C) Cover Media
