There was a time when Actors and Actresses ruled Bollywood Industry for many years together. Amitabh Bachchan, Dev Anand, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, etc have been donning the "Top Celeb" crown for many years but the trend has now changed. Today each year there are fresh faces and many newcomers are joining this rat race. Some old celebs are still going strong while some talented new ones have made it to the coveted list.
2011 saw some excellent performances. While some actors gave us a pleasant surprise with their splendid performances, some were simply disappointing. Fridaymoviez lists down the Top Celebs of the year 2011-
1. Vidya Balan-
From Sabrina to Silk, Vidya Balan proved to be the biggest surprise package of 2011. She started off the year with the simple, sweet, girl-next-door Sabrina. No one expected to see so much transformation in her in the form of Silk in her film "The Dirty Picture". Not only did she give a fascinating performance and showed a lot of guts, but she even challenged the convention of having the "hero" of the film as the focus. This time, Vidya Balan was the "Hero". Her next film "Kahaani" which will be releasing in March 2012 is also a highly anticipated movie and we can expect to see her in the next year's top list as well.
2. Ranbir Kapoor-
The newest "Rockstar" on the block, Ranbir Kapoor was already a huge favourite amongst many girls but after his performance in the movie "Rockstar", he became a complete heart throb. Many didn't like "Rockstar" but no one doubted Ranbir's ability to act. We hope he makes it in this list even next year with his movies "Barfee" and "Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani".
Piggy Chops has never failed to charm us. Her multiple role stint in Whats your Raashee had already made her everyone's favourite but Priyanka Chopra's "7 Khoon Maaf" left everyone speechless. Her multiple roles in this movie and her heartfelt performance were a treat. To add to this she was also back as the 'Junglee billi' in "Don 2". 2012 is going to be a treat for Priyanka's fans as she will be seen in "Agneepath", "Barfee", "Teri Meri Kahaani" and "Krrish 2".
4.Salman Khan-
What to say about him? Salman Bhai has been topping this list for many years now. Many new faces have come and gone but no one can deny that Salman Khan is still a true hero. Although his movies Ready and Bodyguard were heavily criticized, they made loads of business. Salman Khan is instrumental in bringing about a new trend in Bollywood with his Dabangg-style movies. 2012 might see a part two to Dabangg and two other movies- Sher Khan and Ek Tha Tiger are also expected to release.
5.Katrina Kaif-
Salman Khan's lady love never initially got proper credit for her roles. But she never stopped making news either. After her alleged link-up with Sallu Bhai, she was again in the news for their apparent break-up. With her sizzling performance in Sheila Ki Jawani last year, Katrina Kaif suddenly started getting noticed. Her performance in this year's Mere Brother Ki Dulhan was the highlight of this movie. While people were eagerly waiting for 2012 to come, another of Katrina's performances has left an impression on us. This time around she is seen sizzling in Chikni Chameli in the movie Agneepath which will be releasing in 2012. Is she headed on to becoming an Item Girl? We hope not!
If Katrina is doing Item songs, Kareena is no less. Kareena's Chammak Challo in Ra.One became one of the most sensational songs of 2011. While this year had her working with two of the biggest Khans- Salman Khan in Bodyguard and Shahrukh Khan in Ra.One, in 2012, she will star opposite three other Khans- Imran Khan in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Saif Ali Khan in Agent Vinod and Aamir Khan in Talaash. Looks like she is definitely going to have a great year ahead.
7. Ajay Devgn-
He has suddenly become synonymous to Singham. After this movie many non-Ajay Devgn fans turned into his fans. Giving a tough fight to Salman Khan's Dabangg, Ajay Devgn has proved that he is no less.
8.Prakash Raj-
After Amrish Puri no villain has managed to bring out real fear amongst us. Prakash Raj, a villain from down south brought back this magic with Singham. Ajay Devgn received appreciation for his portrayal of Singham but Prakash Raj also became the talk of the town.
9. Anushka Sharma-
This pretty girl is one of the luckiest ones around considering she got the opportunity to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in her debut film. But she soon proved her skills and talent. Although she is constantly in news, she has done barely five movies ever since her debut in 2008 but her performance in each film has been consistently good. Anushka's this year's movie, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl was completely hyped and though it didn't work, Anushka Sharma was again appreciated for her performance in the movie. She may not have done too many movies but she has definitely carved her place in the industry and in people's hearts.
10. Shah Rukh Khan-
Last but not the least, Shah Rukh Khan a.k.a. King Khan was back this year with Ra.One and Don 2. Both were heavily publicized and equally criticized movies but nothing can stop King Khan. Shah Rukh even came up with video games for both his movies. His was the case of- "You can love him, you can hate him but you cannot ignore him" as he was all over the place.
This year saw some same old faces in the "Top Celeb list" while some fresh faces. And some others like Sonam Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Imran Khan who were hyped turned out to be absolutely disappointing.
Looking back at the year 2011 wasn't easy as there were many other good performances and bad performances. Some hits and some flops. But let us "Let the Bygones, be bygones" and welcome the New Year with open arms. Let us see who tops this list next year, will it be the same list or will someone else get a chance to be a part of this. We will have to wait another year to find out. Till then, Happy New Year!
