Tussle in Dancer's Union

10th April 2012

Kollywood is in for more and more trouble. Even as the entire industry has come to a standstill due to a tussle between the producers and workers, a fresh trouble in dancers union is making things worse.

More than 1000 members, including dancers and choreographers, are covered under the existing union. Stating that their interests are being neglected, a section of dance masters feel that they need a separate organisation.

'The problems faced by dancers are totally different to that of dance masters. So we need an exclusive union for us,' said popular choreographer Raghuram, who convened a press meet at the union's office in Chennai on Monday.

However, he was unable to go ahead with the press conference, as the office was locked by the existing office bearers. Reacting to his charge, secretary of the union Prem said, 'There is no truth in the claim. Also, this is not the right time to raise issues. Because the industry is already in crisis.'
