Udhayanidhi Stalin, producer of 7aam Arivu, clarified rumours about the movie concerning the origin of its mythological character 'Bodhidharma' played by Suriya. The movie is directed by A R Murgadoss.
"There was a buzz on microblogging and social networking sites that the Telugu and Hindi (although there is no version in Hindi) versions of 7aam Arivu portray Bodhidharma was from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh and Dharavi in Mumbai in the respective versions, which is offencind for the Tamilians," said Udhayanidhi.
He also claimed that people who cannot deal with the film's success are spreading such baseless rumours and confirmed that even in the Tamil version of the film, the origin of the character is Kanchipuram.
Recently, the political party The Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) had alleged that the film had adopted double standards and urged those involved in the project to take corrective measure or else to face the consequences.
According to Kannan, secretary of HMK, while the film has been positioned as a crusader of Tamil and Tamilians in both the versions, the makers have agreed on deleting pro-Tamil dialogues in Sri Lanka, where the film was released this Diwali along with India.
