Vanessa Minnillo feels compelled to "get her point across".

The 31-year-old television presenter and singer Nick Lachey married last summer.

Vanessa admits that her ambitious nature impacts her relationship with Nick in distinct ways.

"[I'm a] competitive person," Vanessa told Us Weekly. "[With Nick] I have to win the argument, or I have to be right, or I have to get my point across, [but I] let him win every now and then."

The couple enjoy engaging in friendly competition.

Vanessa feels that she and Nick have settled well into married life.

"[Marriage] has been a smooth transition," Vanessa said.

Vanessa credits their solid relationship to the benefits of open communication.

"There is no argument that we can't come out on the other side of, there's no confusion that we don't get, there's no trust issues," she declared. "We've built a great foundation."

Vanessa and Nick married on Caribbean tropical island Necker in July 2011.
