Another hit in the form of Vettai...
Lingusamy, an expert at dishing out mass masala entertainers, is at it again. Lending him a helping hand are Madhavan and Arya. While the director had already delivered a super hit with the former in 'Run', he continues the success show this time too, in the company of both the bankable actors.
Vettai is about two brothers, who have to cross the hurdles posed by an evil man. In the meantime, they have their own love episodes, comical things, petty fights and other things. In short, the film is a sneak-peak into the lives of two men.
Thirumurthy (Madhavan) is a coward youth who has an aggressive younger brother Gurumurthy (Arya). The two have a field time in a small town. When their dad dies, his police job is given to Thirumurthy on compassionate grounds.
Since the timid Thirumurthy is afraid to do his job, help comes from Gurumurthy, who deals with baddies in his own ways. The brothers earn the wrath of a goon Annachi (Asutosh Rana), whose only job is to keep himself busy doing bad things.
In the meantime, Thirumurthy and Gurumurthy have romantic sides too. While the former marries Vasanthi (Sameera Reddy), the latter is in love with Vasanthi's sister Jayanthi (Amala Paul). It's, 'all is well that ends well', in the climax.
Madhavan's performance needs no introduction and he excels in Vettai too. Arya continues from where he left in Boss Engira Baskaran. Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul add oomph factor to the film, while Asutosh Rana is apt for his role.
Produced by Tirupathi Brothers in partnership with UTV Motion Pictures, Vettai has two assets- Nirav Shah's cinematography and Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs. These two vital things make the movie, which comes with an age old story, an interesting fare. Rich technical values, crisp editing and interesting dialogues help Lingusamy a lot.
The director, while handling a cliched story which is shown on the screen since MGR days, has banked heavily on a racy screenplay. And he succeeds too, one has to say.
