Victoria Beckham has recalled the "hell" of being physically threatened while she was at school.

The singer-turned-fashion-designer has been open about the difficulties she experienced as a child. She didn't have many friends growing up and has now revealed the true extent of her turmoil.

"Secondary school was hell. Children picking things up out of the puddles and throwing them at me. I just stood there, on my own. I didn't have any friends," she recalled to the British edition of OK! magazine. "People would push me around, say they were going to beat me up."

The 37-year-old thinks her appearance played a part in the bullying she experienced. She didn't look like some of the other girls at her school, something she became acutely aware of at a young age.

"I was mentally and physically bullied at school. That gave me a very thick skin. The only reason for me bringing that up is I have always been a fighter," she explained.

"I was a skinny, sallow-faced eight year old with pigtails and a gap in my teeth big enough for a pea to get stuck in. It was miserable. I didn't fit in."

Victoria found fame with girl group the Spice Girls alongside Mel B, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel C. Her vocals were often called into question and Victoria admits she wasn't the strongest singer in the band.

She's now a successful fashion designer, having dressed some of the most famous women in the world including Eva Longoria and Jennifer Lopez and recently winning a top award.

Despite this, Victoria still feels she needs to prove herself.

"Now, although I am famous I've been in the biggest band in the world people still say, What can she do.' It can be frustrating," she admitted. "Without ability to back it up, being famous makes you more vulnerable to attack."
