27th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Britain's Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge's appearance at Wimbledon today was "great for tennis", says sportsman Andy Murray.

The newlyweds watched Andy soar to victory from the Royal Box on Centre Court taking him to his fourth straight quarter-final.

They received a standing ovation as they arrived at the famed grounds with the waiting fans excited to get a glimpse of the pair.

After winning 7-6 6-3 6-2, the British No. 1 bowed deeply to the couple and later admitted that he was not aware the famous couple would be witnessing him play.

"It was nice. I didn't know they would be there. As I walked off the practice courts a journalist told me. I didn't practice the bow - I didn't know if my source was correct or if they were winding me up.

"I think it's great for tennis any time you can get royalty to come along," he added proudly.

William and Kate looked relaxed and happy as they watched the match with Kate wearing a cooling white Temperley design dress.

They received a standing ovation as they arrived at the famed grounds.

She chatted and laughed with the wife of the Chairman of the All England Tennis Club who sat beside her.

Andy, 24, said that he felt no extra pressure playing in front of the royal couple but that he felt embarrassed meeting the after because he looked so "sweaty and hairy". (C) Cover Media
