24th March 2011
Recently, an ad film featuring Katrina Kaif was released. A song from 'Slumdog Millionaire' was used in this ad film. A R Rahman was taken aback seeing this. The rights of the song are with A R Rahman. The ad company has not intimated or taken permission from A R Rahman. So he has planned to take legal action. He has advised his lawyers to proceed legally in this matter. Sources of A R Rahman said,” The lawyers have approached the firm and have called for an explanation. Legal action will soon be taken. Bhushan Kumar, from the record company T-series explained: "In normal circumstances, we don't have to ask for permission from composers, but with Rahman it is on a royalty basis, so he was informed, but his office wasn't and they contacted us." He further added that all these misunderstandings have been sorted out.” It is also important to note that Katrina Kaif had cut an album with A R Rahman for a charitable cause.
