Movie with a message
We know Lakshmy Ramakrishnan is an actress who can pull off any kind of roles. From a caring homemaker in many movies to an angry mother who wants to avenge her daughter's death in 'Yudhdham Sei', she proved herself as a talented artiste.
Now Lakshmy shows the world that she can make films. With 'Aarohanam', her debut venture as a director, she has come out with a gripping film that conveys a strong message.
The movie runs for just 90 minutes, and within that short span, Lakshmy has achieved what she has apparently wanted to. The film talks about the travails of women and motherhood, besides reflecting the society.
A woman (Viji Chandrasekhar), after estranging from her husband, lives for her daughter and son. She sells vegetables to make both ends meet.
One day, she goes missing. Her wards start searching for her all around the city. Twist in the tale is that the mother is in a hospital. There begins the emotional travails of the woman, where she is diagnosed of bi-polar disorder.
It's a terrific show by Viji. The television actress speaks with her eyes and brings out the emotions very well. Others in the cast, including Jayaprakash, Uma Padmanabhan and Kishore, present convincing performance.
Music by K, especially the background score, is very good. On the whole, Lakshmy has made a movie which breaks all the conventions.
Also it conveys a nice message without a preachy tone. And it's time that we welcome such attempts.
