Alexis Jordan: Jay-Z gives me freedom

26th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Alexis Jordan likes having Jay-Z as her big boss because he doesnt stem her creativity.

The 18-year-old singer made her name after appearing on the first season on America's Got Talent in 2006. She was eliminated in the semi-finals of the show, and afterwards began posting her own tracks on video-sharing website YouTube. They came to the attention of Jay-Z and production group Stargate, who signed her to their label Star Roc/Roc Nation.

Alexis still cant believe she now counts rap superstar Jay-Z as a friend, and has been impressed by how down to earth he is.

He really is [a mentor] hes the big boss but he lets me have my own vision and creativity on a lot of things, she explained.

Alexiss debut track Happiness was a big hit in America, the UK and Australia, and she says she couldnt have done it without her family. They have given up a great deal to help her realise her dream, and are very close. Alexis mother travels with her wherever possible, but if she cant go abroad other family members accompany her instead.

My family are very supportive and theyve sacrificed a lot for me. It just became a family affair so I dont just do this for me I do it also for my family, she told a UK TV show.

My auntie is a stand in manager for my mom and there when my mom cant be there, because I do have two younger brothers and a little sister, so I dont want to take her away from them. (C) Cover Media
