Amanda Seyfried: I was afraid of fairytales

8th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amanda Seyfried has revealed she couldnt deal with fairytales as a child.

The 25-year-old American actress who is best known for her roles in Dear John, and Mamma Mia! - can be seen in the upcoming dark fantasy film Red Riding Hood. She plays a young girl, Valerie, who upsets her family by falling for an orphaned woodcutter. The film is set in a medieval village that is terrorised by a werewolf and is directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

The stunning star has confessed that despite her involvement in the dark retelling of the classic story, she was terrified of fairytales when she was younger.

"The original tale is pretty scary. I couldn't deal with that when I was young, she said at a London screening. "I was pretty sensitive as a child and I stayed away from all those fairytales because they were all set in the dark forest somewhere far away."

Catherine also helmed the hugely popular Twilight franchise. Naturally, the two fantasy movies have been compared, but Amanda - who stars in the gothic tale alongside Gary Oldman and Shiloh Fernandez - insists she wants audiences to see Red Riding Hood in its own right.

"There are always going to be comparisons, Amanda explained. If you put 'From the director of Twilight' on the poster, you're screwed. But at the same time Twilight was really successful in its own right and our movie is different. So as long as people see it, they'll know what it's about."

Director Catherine says that the film is a totally different ball game to Twilight. The creator says the direction of the film changes drastically after the first scene, and audiences will see that it turns into a murderous plot. (C) Cover Media
