Amy Winehouse passed away happy'

26th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse's father Mitch has said his daughter "passed away happy".

Mitch issued a statement following Amy's private funeral which was held earlier today in London and attended by her close friends and family.

The Back to Black singer died on Saturday aged 27 after a long battle with drugs and alcohol.

But Mitch said he took comfort in the fact that Amy was getting better and was conquering her well-publicised demons.

"Knowing she wasn't depressed, knowing she passed away happy it makes us all feel better," he said.

Mitch added that she was "the happiest she has been for years" and credited her boyfriend Reg Traviss with helping "her with her problems".

He said his daughter was in love and "in good spirits". But Mitch believed that Amy had "overcome her drug dependency" but was still struggling with her drinking problem.

"She was trying hard to deal with her drinking and had just completed three weeks of abstinence. She said, Dad, I've had enough, I can't stand the look on your and the family's faces anymore,'" he said.

Mitch added the family will be setting up the Amy Winehouse Foundation to "help the things she loved children, horses but also to help those struggling with substance abuse".

"Amy was the greatest daughter, family member and friend you could ever have," Mitch added.

The autopsy carried out on the singer earlier this week was found to be inconclusive and authorities are awaiting the results from toxicology tests to determine cause of death. (C) Cover Media
