(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Brad Pitts charitable organisation provided over $24 million to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina find new homes last year.

The Hollywood star is renowned for his support of those whose lives were turned upside down by the 2005 natural disaster. It was one of the deadliest hurricanes ever to hit America; with at least 1,800 people losing their lives and countless others left homeless.

Brad has done a great deal of work in the city of New Orleans, which was ravaged by the disaster and subsequent floods. He has helped create affordable housing for those who were left with nothing, and also owns a home there.

Tax forms filed by the Make It Right Foundation, and seen by RadarOnline.com, show $24 million was provided to help the hurricanes survivors get mortgages and find new property.

What's more, Pitt and Co. were able to raise an additional $20 million for the people of New Orleans, who continue to rise from the ruins more than five years after the natural disaster, reports the site.

The records also show the organisation experienced a profit increase of around $20 million in 2009. It has six employees, who work about 38.5 hours each week.

The Make It Right Foundations mission statement explains it hopes to provide high-quality, energy-efficient housing to families in need.

Brad and his partner Angelina Jolie, who raise six kids together, are renowned for their charitable efforts. They started the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in 2006, which tackles humanitarian issues, and Angelina is also a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. (C) Cover Media
