David Dhawan is back with a BANG!!!
David Dhawan has been the 'King of Comedy', but with his last two projects not doing well at the box office, all eyes were set on the director to see if he can win back his title with his latest project. The original 'Chashme Buddoor' was written and directed by Sai Paranjpye, and David opted to work with her on the original story and even decided to co-write the screenplay with her.
The movie starts with Omi (Divyendu Sharma) narrating a 'shayari' and his friend struggling actor Jai (Siddharth) auditioning for a role, and the two being chased out for their crazy (but extremely funny) act. Their friend Sid (Ali Zafar) is the most balanced among the trio; and the three friends are leading a fun life in Goa.
'Bindaas' girl Seema (Taapsee Pannu) elopes to Goa as she is being forced by her dad Suryakant (Anupam Kher) to tie the knot with an Army Major. Omi and Jai try to make an impression on Seema, and instead get beaten up and are chased out as part of an extremely funny sequence from her uncle's house. Sid meets Seema and then, it's time for the romantic movie track and songs. However, drama kicks in when the jealous friends Omi and Jai try their best to cause their break-up.
David Dhawan has given a modern day approach to the Bollywood classic 'Chashme Buddoor', and he has done a brilliant job. He has managed to extract great performances from his cast. The talented dialogue writers Sajid and Farhad have penned down funny 'shayaris' and 'one liner' that will get very popular especially amongst the youth.
Music by Sajid-Wajid is good, 'Har Ek Friend Kamina Hota Hai' is one song that the audiences will be humming when they leave the theatres.
Divyendu Sharma steals the show as the funny 'shayar'; it's just not the lines, but his style and timing as well that leaves the audiences in splits. Siddharth is a surprise package; he is simply amazing in the movie, he has excellent comic timing and synergizes skillfully with his co-star Divyendu. Ali Zafar has delivered a great performance, and there are few scenes when he truly shines, but at times you feel that he is being overshadowed by his co-stars. Taapsee Pannu gets a dream debut movie. When it comes to looks, she may be the girl next door, but she balances it well with her energetic performance. Rishi Kapoor and Lilette Dubey have a great romantic track as well, and they further add to the fun element of the movie. Anupam Kher fails to impress, but Bharti Achrekar, who plays 'dadi' does a good job.
With 'Chashme Baddoor', David Dhawan has definitely added yet another feather to his hat, as he has managed to recreate the magic. It is a complete family entertainer and will do great with the masses despite the IPL season.
Great cast and superb direction sure makes this film fun to watch.
