Chris Martin: Coldplay are fired up

25th November 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Coldplay sought inspiration from graffiti for their edgy fifth album.

The British rock band comprises of lead vocalist Chris Martin, lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and Will Champion on drums.

Coldplay have had a hugely successful musical career, and their fifth studio album is expected to show an edgier side to them, with the band seeking inspiration from more obscure sources.

"The ideas come from New York graffiti art of the Seventies where people were expressing themselves with paint, Chris told British newspaper The Sun.

"I've spent a lot of my life playing it a bit safe or conforming to something, even though I didn't agree with it.

"So I have respect and admiration for people who don't.

Chris thinks its important to stand up for what you believe in and stick to your morals, which is something he hopes will translate into the album. It is that element of graffiti Chris admires, even if he knows its wrong to vandalise property.

"It's about being free to be yourself and to express yourself among negative surroundings. Being able to speak out or follow your passion, even if everybody seems against it," he added.

The singer is excited about the record which is scheduled for release next year and remains untitled - and admits the band hope to produce some of their best work in the next few years. The 33-year-old star worries that in five years time theyll be past their musical peak.

"We're hungry and very fired up. In five years we'll be in our late 30s. You have to have your best work done by then, he explained. (C) Cover Media
