Coldplay have sparked safety concerns after planning a performance packed with pyrotechnics for the Brit Awards.
The band is set to perform a track from their latest album Mylo Xyloto at the prestigious awards ceremony in the UK on Tuesday. Frontman Chris Martin is determined to impress the audience with an explosive set, but organisers are worried it could be too dangerous to stage.
"The band have ordered so many pyrotechnics for their opening set that officials were worried it would blow the roof off" reports British newspaper The Sun.
"It has been a logistical nightmare and for a long time organisers didn't think they'd be able to go ahead with the plans," a source added to the publication.
"People have been running around the arena with clipboards for weeks trying to sort it out."
Coldplay are up for British Album of the Year and Best British Band at the Brits this year.
They are competing against Adele in the album category, and the rockers have already conceded that Mylo Xyloto is unlikely to triumph against the worldwide success of 21.
"Unless Adele somehow deletes her albums, I think we can come to the conclusion [that we won't win]. I'm pretty sure of it," Chris said last week.
"You can be one of those artists that don't really care about them or you can, like us, love it, and we're always so grateful to be included. It's a kind of Olympics for a band. It's nice to win a medal."
Adele is also in the running for Best British Female Solo Artist and Best British Single for Someone Like You.
After sweeping the board at the Grammy Awards last week, Adele is looking forward to attending the Brits tomorrow.
The 23-year-old attracted global attention after performing Someone Like You at the ceremony last year and she is happy to be celebrating her success on home soil.
"I have a soft spot for the Brits, but this year feels really special since last year it kick-started my album into what it's become," she explained. "What a beautiful way to celebrate."
The Brit Awards is taking place at the O2 Arena and will be presented by comic actor James Corden. Blur are set to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize this year. (C) Cover Media
