Court grants bail to Saxena

Hansraj Saxena, CEO of Sun Pictures, was granted bail by the sessions court on Thursday. However, he will continue to be in jail, as two more cases are pending against him.

Principal Sessions judge P Devadass granted bail to Saxena in the T Selvaraj cheating case on the conditions that he would have to execute a bond for Rs 10,000, furnish two sureties, remain in Madurai and appear before Thalakulam police station every morning.

Saxena was arrested on 3rd July, 2011 for allegedly cheating Salem-based film distributor T Selvaraj of Rs 82.5 lakh meant for the distribution of Theeratha Vilaiyattu Pillai. He was booked under various provisions of the IPC, including sections 428 and 506 (ii) and remanded in judicial custody.

Hansraj Saxena, now remanded in Puzhal prison and a close aide of group chairman Kalanithi Maran, is also charged with extorting a part of the amount paid to producer Nemichand Jhabak for securing the rights of a film (Mappillai) he produced. Another case has also been filed against him.
