Danny Boyle is feeling nervous for the volunteer performers ahead of the Olympic Games opening ceremony.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker is artistic director of the 27 million event at the Olympic stadium in Stratford, east London. He is full of praise for the 15,000 people participating in the show tonight, which promises to be a spectacular occasion.
Danny has brushed aside any anxieties he may be experiencing, insisting the focus should be on those in front of the cameras.
"It has been a long road and we are almost there. I mean, what you think about really, is the volunteers. The thing is with directors they just sit at the back in the end, you know, this is a live performance and in this case they are volunteers, and they have to get up there and do it," the Slumdog Millionaire director said during a press conference. "Any nervousness I feel is for them, really. My nerves are not important. And the excitement I feel about it is the same excitement they feel.
"So yeah, I am looking forward to it. Whatever comes our way, comes our way because it is live and it's a one-time only. I will never do one again, but it is extraordinary to be involved in one."
A crowd of around 80,000 spectators including Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and a host of dignitaries and celebrities will be seated in the Olympic stadium this evening.
The theme for the show is Isles of Wonder and will depict Britain's past, present and future. It has been inspired by William Shakespeare's The Tempest, with Sir Kenneth Branagh rumoured to be reading from the famous play.
James Bond actor Daniel Craig will apparently be seen visiting Buckingham Palace to be told his latest mission is to launch the Olympic Games.
Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney will also be performing live.
Soccer star David Beckham has voiced his excitement ahead of the prestigious sporting event taking place in his home country.
David will be involved in the opening ceremony despite being left out of the Great British soccer team. There are rumours he could even perform some tricks with a special soccer ball.
The star has revealed thinking about the show-stopping event "gives him goosebumps" and he feels "honoured" to be part of it.
The identity of the person who will light the flame inside the stadium is a closely-guarded secret. Famous Olympians tipped to take part include Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Roger Bannister, Muhammad Ali and Daley Thompson. (C) Cover Media
