David Arquette has split from TV reporter girlfriend Christina Mclarty.

The Scream star started dating last year Christina following his separation from his wife Courteney Cox. He has confirmed the news of their break-up on social networking website Twitter.

The 40-year-old actor had earlier confessed that he kept the relationship secret from his seven-year-old daughter with Courteney, Coco.

"Sadly I'm single again. A long distance relationship proved to be too difficult," he wrote.

His comments come after Courteney, 47, revealed that her estranged husband advised her to "get out there" and date again.

The couple separated in October 2010 after 11 years of marriage but have remained close friends for the sake of their daughter.

The former Friends star spoke about the challenges of moving on from the relationship in an interview last month and said she was "happy for" David in his new relationship.

"Yeah, you know it's hard," she said. "I probably caught up to this whole situation later than he did.

"And, I am really happy for him and he's got a girlfriend. Everything's great. I know it seems so weird, it's even weird for me to say that."

Courteney was emotional in the interview as she spoke about bringing a new man into her life at the insistence of her ex.

"David said, Courteney, you've got to get out there.' I'm easing my way in," she shared.
