Florence Welch craved simple lifestyle

9th December 2011

Florence Welch used to dream of living in a log cabin and reading the Bible all day when she was young.

The British singer has always had a vivid imagination and it went into overdrive after her parents divorced when she was a child. Florence took to wearing only gingham and began to wish she lived a simpler existence.

"I was longing for a puritanical lifestyle as a kid. I must have sensed some kind of ruction between my parents, because I was really longing to live in a log cabin, read the Bible, drink fresh milk," she mused.

The 25-year-old star admits her childhood wasn't always that happy mostly because she was different to other youngsters.

She formed a witches' coven when she was 11 and never felt carefree like her contemporaries. That feeling is something she's only started to experience recently.

"For a lot of performers, you're looking to get to that sense of childlike freedom and imagination," she explained to the January edition of UK magazine Vogue. "But I was a really scared kid. I think in a sense I'm having a renaissance of childhood. I'm embracing the world, instead of being followed around by nightmares all the time."
