Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli "reached an impasse" in their matrimony.

Peter filed legal papers to end his marriage to Jennie last month, citing irreconcilable differences. The pair had been married for 11 years and have three children together.

Jennie is quoted as saying she wished Peter "had wanted to try harder" to save their union.

Sources close to Peter claim that the actor did all he could to rectify their marital problems.

"He loved being a family man," an insider told Us Weekly. "It was not an easy decision, but they reached an impasse."

It is thought that Jennie became bitter about Peter's professional success.

"Her career hit a standstill, and she became resentful," the source continued.

Peter is attempting to keep a low profile in regards to the divorce despite what Jennie may reveal to the press.

"Peter is keeping his head down in regard to anything Jennie says," the source said. "He doesn't want to push the situation."

Peter and Jennie are parents to daughters Luca, 14, Lola, nine, and five-year-old Fiona.
