George Clooney is a free man again after being released from jail.

The actor reportedly posted $100 bond and left a Washington D.C. jail after being arrested earlier in the day for crossing a police line while leading a protest outside the Sudanese embassy.

The Ides of March star told waiting reporters that he hopes his arrest helped to further highlight the cause.

"You never know if you are accomplishing anything," the 50-year-old said. "We hope it helps. There really is a ticking clock on (the situation)."

When asked about the conditions in jail he said "it was rough, you can imagine" before adding that he and the other men were all put in the same cell.

George said the incident was his first ever arrest and hoped it would be his "last."

The actor was arrested along with his father Nick, Democratic politician Jim Moran of Virginia, Martin Luther King III and civil rights leader Ben Jealous.

George had been led away in handcuffs by the uniformed division of the U.S. Secret Service following three warnings not to cross the line.

The star's arrest comes after his testimony in the US Senate on Wednesday about his dangerous mission to the volatile border region between Sudan and South Sudan last week. He met with US Secretary Hillary Clinton and American President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.

George spoke passionately about the humanitarian issue before being carried away. The Hollywood star and fellow protestors accused Sudan's president Omar al-Bashir of locking food and aid to the country.

"We need immediate humanitarian aid into Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world," he said.
