Filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta has churned out serious-cinema with movies like 'Aamir' and 'No One Killed Jessica' in his career till date. And after trying his hand at parallel cinema, the filmmaker has experimented with comedy through 'Ghanchakkar'.
Starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan in the lead, the film is an entertaining tale with a dash of comedy and suspense. Talking about the plot and the central characters of the film, writer/director Raj Kumar Gupta states that he wanted only Vidya and Emraan to play the lead.
"Vidya plays a housewife and Emraan her husband, who is a former lock-breaker and someone who dealt with the porn industry. Emraan is very quirky in real life. Vidya has never played a Punjabi housewife before, but somehow I visualized her as a fiery lady, who loves dressing up, cooking food and devouring it too. I worked with writer Parvez on the script as I loved the madcap, quirky plot of the film," shared Gupta.
The movie produced by Vidya's husband Siddharth Roy Kapur, is slated to release on June 28.
