Guy Pearce: Neighbours hair was career risk

30th May 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Guy Pearce has joked that the haircuts on Neighbours were potentially career destroying.

The Hollywood star began his work in front of the camera on the long-running Australian soap in the 1980s alongside Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, with all three of them sporting hair styles typical of the era.

When it was mentioned how well the three Neighbours graduates have done, the Prometheus actor laughed that it is surprising they managed to be so successful considering everyone had seen their questionable styles.

"[It is great that we have all done so well] particularly after those haircuts!" he told British TV show Lorraine. "How could anyone have a career after that?"

Guy also reminisced about another of his defining roles.

The Hollywood hunk starred as drag artist Adam Whitely/Felicia Jollygoodfellow in comedy drama The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and can't believe it has been two decades since the 1994 movie was shot.

But he added that his growing waistline reminds him of how much time has passed.

"It's funny because Madame Tussauds just did a wax work of me for that [character] and I said, I'm not quite the same shape that I was,' and I had to go and model this pose. I said, I'm a little thicker around the middle and a little more wrinkly than I was,' and they said, Yes, everyone wants to look better in their wax model' and I said, It was 20 years ago!'" he laughed.
