Hyderabad's gift to cinema

21st May 2012

The Hyderabad Film Club, started in 1974, is active in bringing together movie buffs from different walks of life. Some of the members of the club from the Telugu tinsel town are Paruchuri Brothers, Tanikella Bharani, L. B. Sriram and producer Suresh Babu.

Recently, the club organised their 17th European Union Film Festival in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Alliance Francaise, Goethe Zentrum and the Hyderabad Film Club organised the film festival, named ‘Europe in Love’, which was held from May 10 to May 20.

'It’s not every day that you come across films from countries like Estonia, Malta and Slovenia. Such festivals are a good opportunity for film buffs to watch such movies under one roof,' said Monika Hirmer, programme coordinator, Goethe Zentrum.

'There has been a good response to international cinema in Hyderabad.' organisers said. The Hyderabad Film Club has tied up with embassies of several countries and screens about five films each month apart from hosting film festivals with a specific country theme.

A house magazine HYFIC (Hyderabad Film Club's News Letter), is published every month to make members aware of the significance of the types of films screened by the Club. The Club also published several books on cinema.
