December 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): James Cameron has not only ruled at the Box Office with his December 2009 release Avatar but also became hot favorite of the pirates. The blockbuster science- fiction has topped the list of most pirated films in the year 2010, as per the data released by a file-sharing blog.
Torrentfreak said that Avatar has been downloaded 16.6m times in only one file-sharing site. So, you can imagine the total expected figure with all other sites. The movie created a huge excitement among the movie goers when it was released in 2009 December.
The second place in the list has been taken by the comic book action movie Kick-Ass, which was downloaded 11.4m times. Leonardo DiCaprio starrer Inception is in the next place with 9.7 m record.
Cameron thought that 3D filmmaking is best way to fight piracy of the movies but his 3D version of Avatar proved it wrong by making record downloads. However, this could not affect the successful Box Office journey of Avatar, which managed to earn about $2.8bn (1.8bn) across the world.
The Hurt Locker, the Oscar winning movie directed by Camerons former wife Kathryn Bigelow, has managed to be on the 9th position in the most pirated list.
