James Franco will be loyal director

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - James Franco is always loyal when directing film adaptations.

The American actor has confirmed that he soon hopes to direct big screen versions of William Faulkners novel As I Lay Dying and Cormac McCarthys book Blood Meridian.

James admits making the former film would be one of his biggest challenges to date.

Movies, in some ways because they deal in images, are more concrete. I want to be loyal to the book my approach is to always be loyal in a lot a ways but in order to be loyal I will have to change some things for the movie, James told EW.com.

The actor believes telling the 1930s story of As I Lay Dying which is based on a family carrying their mothers body to her place of rest on the big screen wont be straight forward because of the multiple narrators involved.

However, James accepts that a movie can never be an exact representation of a book, but it can reflect its spirit.

You want to capture the tone, but you cant work in exactly the same way, James revealed. I dont believe itll feel the same if you divide it as rigidly as the book, like titles that say Cash and then youre with Cash. You can slip into the characters heads and give them their inner voice for a while, but it has to be more fluid because movies just work differently than books. (C) Cover Media
