Karl Lagerfeld: I like innovative women

6th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Fashion - Karl Lagerfeld says British models such as Stella Tennant can remain “the chicest thing in the world” wherever they go.

The German designer is creative director at iconic French fashion house Chanel, but he says it is British women who provide him with his greatest source of inspiration.

The fashion world is currently swarming with British style icons, such as television presenter Alexa Chung and singer-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham, but it is top model Stella who has really caught Karl’s eye. He cites her as one of his favourite models for the way she can adapt from city chic to countryside beauty.

"They always have a touch of the unexpected in their attitude and in their way of living. They can be like Stella - now a country girl - and they stay the chicest thing in the world... (it's) not easy to do that,” explained Karl when he paid homage to his UK muses in the British edition of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

Karl went on to explain that although Parisian woman always look elegant and tailored, he admires the way British females deviate from the norm and push fashion boundaries.

“Their eccentricity and their irreverence are full of invention,” he said. "They are all totally different in looks and styles. That is what I love. I never think for one second that they could be from another place than England.” (C) Cover Media
