Kelsey Grammer considers political career

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kelsey Grammer thinks he has the "resilient ego" a politician needs.

The American actor is a firm supporter of the Republican party, something he has talked openly about over the years. His interest in politics is so great the star is now considering making it his career full time, revealing he'd like to stand for New York office when he stops acting.

"I have had a great career and extraordinary opportunities. But I look at my political aspirations as that last piece of my life - where I hope to do something good for people and pay back a little," he told New York Post.

"[Actors and politicians both need a] narcissistic personality, you certainly have to have a resilient ego."

In his new television show Boss, Kelsey plays the mayor of Chicago. The programme will hit screens in America in October and Kelsey is pleased with how it's shaping up.

The part made him think about what it would be like to wield political power. Although the 56-year-old refuses to be drawn on when he might retire from acting, he admits his health is something which has coloured his decision.

He had a heart attack in 2008 and it made him weigh up what he really wants out of life.

"I spent several months sort of looking at my own life. And I just decided I didn't want to have [my show Hank] be my last story," he explained.

"So, I decided that it was time to make changes that involved my career, as well as my personal life. Doing a drama started to make really good sense, because it took me back to my roots." (C) Cover Media
