(Cover) - EN Showbiz - The Kings Speech has been nominated for seven prestigious Golden Globe Awards.

The movie stars Colin Firth as King George VI, and portrays the royal as he rises to the throne despite having to overcome a major stammer defect. Colins performance has been praised by critics, and has won him a nomination in the best drama actor category. He will compete against Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network, James Franco in 127 Hours, Ryan Gosling for Blue Valentine and Mark Wahlberg in The Fighter.

The Fighter and The Social Network are the second most-nominated movies. All three films feature in a number of the same categories, including the prestigious best drama film prize, along with Black Swan and Inception. They will also battle it out for the best director prize, which features Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan, David Fincher for The Social Network, Tom Hooper for The Kings Speech, Christopher Nolan for Inception and David O. Russell for The Fighter.

Helena Bonham Carter has won a best supporting actress nomination for her role in The Kings Speech, which will see her compete against Melissa Leo for The Fighter, Amy Adams for the same movie, Mila Kunis in Black Swan and Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom. In the best supporting actor category, either Christian Bale for The Fighter, Michael Douglas in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Andrew Garfield in The Social Network, Jeremy Renner for The Town or Geoffrey Rush for The Kings Speech will take home the prize.

Tim Burtons highly-anticipated Alice in Wonderland is in the running to be named best comedy or musical film, along with Burlesque, The Kids Are All Right, Red and The Tourist. Alice in Wonderland star Johnny Depps performance has landed him a best actor in a comedy or musical nomination, a category in which he is named twice. His second mention is courtesy of his part in The Tourist, but he faces stiff competition from Paul Giamatti thanks to Barney's Version, Jake Gyllenhaal in Love and Other Drugs and Kevin Spacey for Casino Jack. The female version of the prize will go to either Anne Hathaway for Love and Other Drugs, Angelina Jolie in the Tourist, Emma Stone for Easy A or Annette Bening or Julianne Moore, both for The Kids Are All Right.

Television shows also get a mention at the awards, with Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife, Mad Men and The Walking Dead competing for best drama series. Either The Big Bang Theory, The Big C, Glee, Modern Family or Nurse Jackie will take home the comedy or musical version of the prize.
