Karan Johar, who is undoubtedly one of the most influential and highly marketed brands in Bollywood today, turns 41. Sharing an insight on his journey in tinsel town, Karan expressed his equation with Aditya Chopra, whom he considers to be his mentor in the industry.
Karan's renowned Dharma Productions, is often seen going head-to-head with Yash Raj Films in Bollywood. But outside of the professional competitive spirit, Karan shared his personal feeling on the Yash Raj Films brand and his relationship with the legendry filmmaker late Yash Chopra's son Aditya Chopra.
Karan expressed that over the years, he has learned that he cannot change himself as a person, and he would not go out of the way to be liked by someone. The filmmaker, however, added that when it came to Aditya, he does make an exception as he still in a way, looks for approval and feedback on his work from Aditya.
Karan credits Aditya for being the sole reason for him becoming a filmmaker. He considers Aditya to be his teacher, who not only taught Karan to work on the camera but also exposed him to the art of filmmaking which has been the backbone of his success.
Karan added that he and Aditya have this tacit understanding that when they watch each other's films, a 'no news' is essentially 'bad news' in this case; as the two would only call if they liked the movie. Karan shared that Aditya was one of the first ones to call him after watching 'Wake Up Sid' and he asked for director Ayan Mukerji's contact, and the same went for the director of the latest 'Agneepath'. Besides, Karan also received complements from Aditya on the promo of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's film 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'.
Karan put the perfect closure to the topic by going to the extent of expressing that Aditya is in fact the reason why he stands at this height in the film industry.
