Mehmood: The unique face of comic talent

23rd July 2012

Mehmooh Ali Khan was one of the lucky ones. Unquestionably, he struggled to make his mark and faded away with time, leaving only a handful to remember what a true genius he was!

But he also was one of those fortunate to leave this materialistic world in his sleep 8 years ago on July 23, 2004.

In the years that Mehmood reigned, it poured producers, distributors and actors. For that matter anybody associated with a Mehmood film was always secure financially!

Mehmood was the undoubted, USP of any film.

Some actors became heroes overnight because of Mehmood’s presence in the film it was like getting a new lease of life!

What more could a comedian-cum actor want, than an entire Studio, one of the best in Bollywood – Mehboob Studios named after their life in the film industry.

Little do we remember the Mehboob who first starred as a victim in CID. But everybody even today remembers Mehmood’s acting and direction in Bombay to Goa alongside Amitabh Bachchan.

Mehmood was at his peak and a rage for over 20 years from 1965 to 1985, but his career began to decline because of Bollywood’s new trend where male lead actors itself began to play comical roles as well.

Mehmood acted as Johny in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna and that remains his last hit film as an actor.

Mehmooh Ali Khan was not just an actor, he was an inspiration, a reason people laughed. His short , stout moustache, his dialogues and gait, when he spoke and when he mimicked, he was entertainment in its purest form.

Today on his 8th Death Anniversary, FridayMoviez hopes Mehmood is spreading happiness in a better world!
