(Cover) - EN Star Style - Nicole Richie has admitted that she rarely washes her hair.

The American style guru, who always looks glamorous when she appears in public, made the surprising confession to fans on social-networking site Twitter that she only cleanses her long blonde locks for special events.

On this occasion, it was her guest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that inspired her to take to the shower.

The 29-year-old fashion designer went on to say that she hoped the blonde short-haired chat show host was grateful for her special effort.

Doing @TheEllenShow today, so I washed my hair. It's a rare occasion, I hope she appreciates it (sic), she joked on Twitter.

Ellen, also an American stand-up comedienne, replied to Nicole to affirm that she was indeed happy the celebrity was going out of her way to clean her hair for her guest appearance on the show.

She even went on to request the star use good quality shampoo.
