(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sandra Bullock and her ex-husband were in a good place in the run up to his cheating scandal.

Shortly after Sandra won her best actress Oscar last year it was revealed Jesse James had cheated on her with a string of women. They immediately split up and are now divorced, with Sandra continuing their plans to adopt a baby boy alone.

Jesse has written about the time in his new book American Outlaw and says he had huge regrets about what happened. If he could go back he would never have hurt his ex-wife, explaining the whole scandal came at a time when they were closer than ever.

I think our relationship was at a great place, he told Access Hollywood. All the infidelity and stuff I put it behind me and it was 11 months before that and I stopped it and moved ahead. And bringing [Sandras adopted son] Louis into our lives brought us together and it was kind of a catalyst that made our relationship really, really great She was at the top of the world and I was extremely proud of her and its a life lesson: you never know, in a blink of an eye [something can] be gone and over.

Jesse insists his new tome isnt a tell-all or meant to make cash out of the scandal. If people read it Jesse believes they will be shocked by how open and how hard he is on himself.

Sandra and Jesse were in the process of adopting baby Louis when they split, which is something he still finds hard. He hasnt seen the tot since the scandal and hopes he will make contact with the boy at some point in the future.

We adopted him together initially and I was with him for three months, all through award season, it was just him and I, so its kind of the biggest tragedy of all this, he explained. But, I know Sandys a great person and a great mom and that kidll be the crown prince If he was neglected, I would feel sad, more sad about it, but knowing what a great mom and a great person she is, I guess it kinda offers me some consolation that I know hell be OK.
