(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sean Penn has slammed the world for abandoning Haiti.
The actor-and-activist has spent a lot of time raising awareness of the country's plight following a devastating earthquake in 2010. He claims other famous faces were also initially eager to lend a hand, but public interest has now waned.
"It's not only celebrities who went for a day," Sean reportedly told press at the Cannes Film Festival. "It's the whole f**king world. It's all of you.
"The reason we have Haiti fatigue is because there was never a commitment in the first place."
The Oscar-winning star also called on US President Barack Obama to meet with Haiti's new leader Michel Joseph Martelly.
"It is time for our formidable and elegant president to stand by side with the new president of Haiti," he added.
Sean is at the glitzy film event in France to attend a fund-raising dinner for the victims of the earthquake.
He was joined by model Petra Nemcova and director Paul Haggis, who are also involved in Haiti non-profit organisations.
Sean paid tribute to both Petra and Paul, while Paul hailed the outspoken actor a "hero". (C) Cover Media
