One of the directors, who made the whole world turn towards Tamil cinema, was Director Shankar. He has elevated Tamil cinema on par with Hollywood films. Shankar is not only a good director but also a good speaker. Shankar, while speaking, said that the things he has learnt from Vijay's father and director S A Chandrasekaran when he was an assistant director, were most valuable.
Shankar said, When I was 23 years old, I joined as an assistant to director S A Chandrasekaran. In those days I use to work without any responsibility. One day S.A.C called me and scolded me. He advised me that if I don't work hard, I will not come up in my life. These words changed me a lot. Today, I have come up in a big way. He is the reason for this. In a similar way, Vijay also gives respect to his father. He works very hard and with dedication. I have learnt a lot of things when I started working with him.
Shankar is currently directing a film titled 'Nanban' which has Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Sathyaraj and Ileana in the cast. This film is the remake of the super hit Hindi film 'Three Idiots'.
