Legendary playback singer S Janaki sustained a head injury after she slipped and fell in a hotel she was staying in at Tirupati on Tuesday. She was immediately hospitalised and doctors, after thorough investigation, said her condition is fine.
In a health bulletin, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) director Dr B Vengamma said the 73-year-old singer was a diabetic and hypertensive, but all her vital parameters were stable. She brushed aside rumours that the singer had slipped into a coma.
'We thoroughly examined the head injury. We call it subgaleal haematoma, injury below the skin. The brain portions are safe. She doesn’t have any other injury. We put in six sutures. She is likely to be discharged soon,' the doctor said.
Surgery was ruled out as there was no damage to the brain. Sources close to Janaki said she had undertaken a series of journeys during the last few days that led to a fall in her blood pressure levels.
