Morgan Freeman, the charming actor who won our hearts through all the academy award nominations celebrates his 75th birthday today.
Best known for his performances in 'Street Smart', 'Driving Miss Daisy', 'The Shawshank Redemption', 'Invictus' and not to forget the character 'Eddie (Scrap-Iron) Dupris' in 'Million Dollar Baby', the American actor has definitely carved a road of success in Hollywood.
Freeman, who was born in Memphis, Tennesseee, kept moving places with his family during his childhood. He started his acting career at the age of 9, playing the lead role in a school play. He graduated from Broad Street High School. At the age of 12 he won a statewide drama competition while he was still in school and also performed in a radio show based in Nashwille, Tennessee.
After graduation, he turned down a partial drama scholarship from Jackson State University, opting instead to work as a mechanic in the United States Air Force.
Freeman worked as a transcript clerk at a community college, a dancer at the 1964 World's Fair and he was also a member of the Opera Ring Musical theatre group.
Although his first credited film appearance was in 1971's 'Who Says I Can't Ride A Rainbow', Freeman became known in the American media through roles in soap operas. He began playing prominent supporting roles in many feature films, earning him a reputation for depicting wise, fatherly characters.
Morgan Freeman has also acted in box office hits, including 'Unforgiven', 'Glory', 'Seven', 'Deep Impact', 'Bruce Almighty' and many more.
Morgan was one of the presenters at the 46664 concert, celebrating Nelson Mandela's birthday. At the age of 65, he also earned a private pilot's license. Freeman is the host and narrator of the Discovery Channel television show 'Through the Wormhole'.
In 2004, Freeman and others formed the Grenada Relief Fund to aid the people affected by Hurricane Ivan. He has also worked in narrating small clips for global organisations such as One Earth, whose goals include raising awareness for environmental issues.
Through all his career life, from being an actor, film director, an aviator and a narrator too, Morgan Freeman yet holds a mountain of success.
