(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tom Cruise hears rumours about himself but doesn't feel he has to "prove himself to anyone".
The Hollywood star is aware there is an intense interest in his life as well as in his marriage to Katie Holmes, but he believes some things are private and should not be in the public domain.
"Does refuting things help? Not really. There comes a point when you just have to go, 'You know what? Here's how I've lived my life: I've never been late to a set. I make films I believe in. I feel privileged to be able to do what I love.' You just have to keep going and remember that," he told the June issue of Playboy.
"I hear it [the gossip], I read it, I get it. But life is not a matter of trying to prove anything to anybody."
Tom adopted Connor and Isabella with ex-wife Nicole Kidman and has six-year-old daughter Suri with Katie Holmes.
He will not tolerate comments or untruths about his family.
"You start with a letter saying, 'OK, you know it's not true. Apologise.' But with certain ones you have to go, 'OK, you crossed a line, and now you have the attention of my lawyers.' [laughs] When it involves your kids, you have to go, 'Here's the line,'" he said in an excerpt of the interview reported by People.
Tom is a Scientologist but thinks his religious beliefs can cause issues with the public. He often feels that if he discusses his feelings people think he's being dismissive, while they accuse him of preaching if he is more open.
"I have respect for what other people believe. What I believe in my own life is that it's a search for how I can do things better, whether it's being a better man or a better father or finding ways for myself to improve," he explained.
The 49-year-old star added he has never had plastic surgery, he just leads a healthy life which helps him look good.
He also praised Katie for her "beautiful creativity" and discussed the bond he has with Suri.
"When she walks into the room, I just feel better. I'm a romantic. I like doing things like creating romantic dinners, and she enjoys that. I don't know what to say I'm just happy, and I have been since the moment I met her. What we have is very special," he said. (C) Cover Media
