(Cover) - EN Movies - Tom Hardy is reportedly set to play notorious Chicago mobster Al Capone.

The rising actor, who will be playing Batman's arch nemesis Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, has reportedly signed on to star in Cicero. The film, which Warners is hoping will spawn a trilogy, will focus on the early beginnings of Al Capone, the America gangster who ruled Chicago's crime scene in the 20s and 30s.

Tom is certainly keeping busy since starring in hit film Inception. He's also expected to appear in a reboot of Mel Gibson classic Mad Max.

According to Vulture, Warners are also hoping that Harry Potter director David Yates will helm the crime epic.

They had best start soon, as there is another rival mobster film planned for 2013. Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Giovanni Ribisi star in The Gangster Squad. Instead of Al Capone, the gangster of the piece will be Mickey Cohen.

Al Capone was famously played by Robert De Niro in 1987's The Untouchables, and was recently portrayed by Stephen Graham in HBO hit series Boardwalk Empire. (C) Cover Media
