Chaplin who is the protégé of Karu Palaniappan is debuting as a director with the film Udhayan. Arulnidhi who did the lead role in the film Vamsam is the doing the lead role in Udhayan. Parineeta is debuting as heroine with this film.

Chaplin while speaking about this film said, "The hero who meets a girl instead of expressing his love asks her to marry him. Romance blossoms between the two. Some of the rowdies are against this love. Why they are against this love, is the rest of the story. Though this is a usual story, the climax will be different. Since this is my first film, I have completed this film with great risk. Initially I was in search of a heroine for this film. I considered lots of heroines because the heroine role is important for the story in this film. Many of them acted artificially. I selected Parineeta who had beauty and acting. She had earlier acted in a Kannada and Telugu film."

Well, every film maker claims that there film is different but only time will tell how different is the story and how much will the audience enjoy it.
