Usher: I made Bieber wait

23rd February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Usher stopped Justin Bieber from auditioning for him when they first met, making him wait a week and a half to sing.

The American R&B star acts as a mentor to the 16-year-old star, and helped launch his career. The two stars performed alongside each other at the recent Grammy Awards, and while on stage Justin paid tribute to their first meeting.

He recalled Usher telling him not to rush things as if something is destined to take place it always will, and Usher has now spoken more about what he meant.

I did tell him, and I think this will continue to be relevant for his story, is if its truly meant itll happen. The first time we ever met was in a parking lot, I was in a session and it was very cold outside. He said, Im Justin and Id really like to sing for you, Im a big fan of yours. So I said, Come inside man, its cold out here. We went into the corridor and I said, You know what? I dont think you should do it right now if its truly meant itll happen and we will meet again, Usher said.

The next time I saw him was a week and a half later, I met his manager and he came to my studio. If its meant to happen it will, as long as you have a steadfast attitude and a positive attitude to what youre doing.

Justin has gone on to sell millions of records worldwide, and his debut movie Justin Bieber: Never Say Never was recently released.

Usher thinks its important for artists to constantly improve, so tries to switch up his sound with every album. He does so for his fans, who are always his main focus.

The fans keep me evolving. Without their endorsement of what my artistic interpretation is, I wouldnt have an audience. Change is always happening, thats the one thing you can count on for sure, he told a British TV show. (C) Cover Media
