Adele struggles to quit smoking

9th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Adele has admitted that her unhealthy habits are affecting her voice.

Recalling a scare when she fell ill with laryngitis, the singer admitted that her vocal strength improved as soon as she stopped smoking.

However, the down-to-earth star admitted she would rather risk her singing ability than be totally square and kick her smoking habit.

"I gave up smoking for two months. It was f**king grim," she told the British edition of Glamour magazine. "I had laryngitis about a week before the album came out and it was so frightening. I stopped smoking, drinking, eating or drinking citrus, spicy foods or caffeine. It was so f**king boring. When my album went to number one here and in America, I just sat in my room and watch telly because I couldn't go out and talk to anyone! My voice was better when I wasn't smoking. Within a week I noticed it had changed, but I'd rather my voice be a bit sh*t so I can have a f**king laugh!"

This month Adele was struck down by another bout of laryngitis forcing her to cancel her remaining US tour dates as she has been ordered to take a few weeks to recover with absolute voice rest.

The singer went on to reveal that despite her incredible success, she still does most of her chores. Adele is looking forward to taking a break from her busy schedule so she can look after herself.

"Yeah [I have an assistant] but I do my own washing though! My auntie cleans for me, but I love a good clean as well. And when all these squillions of pounds you keep talking about come in, I'm having a f**king break, so I won't need any help! I don't need assistance to get myself to the pub," she said.
